A message from our CAO

County of Essex CAO Sandra Zwiers

When you work for the County of Essex, you are working for a regional champion that invests in its valued employees so they can maximize their potential.

The County of Essex has been delivering solid governance in southwestern Ontario since 1792. We have more than 900 employees on our diverse and dynamic team, including accountants, administrators, engineers, nurses, paramedics, personal support workers, planners, communicators, lawyers, labourers, librarians and more.

The County of Essex strives to be an employer of choice and emphasizes the importance of mental wellness and a healthy work-life balance. Our Strategic Plan calls for us to be an “employer with impact” that fosters “positive employee experiences” and administers “employee recognition and appreciation programs” as part of an ongoing effort to “improve the recruitment and retention of high quality” employees.

We are an equal opportunity employer and we encourage applications from all qualified individuals. Explore our website to learn more about the many benefits of living and working in Essex County.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

We have a great team

In 2025, the County of Essex distributed 188 Long-Term Service Pins recognizing combined years of service of more than 3,000 years. Nearly 40 employees were recognized for serving 25 years or more, 35 earned their 20-year pins and 48 earned their 15-year pins. That remarkable longevity is a testament to the positive culture here at the County of Essex.

We also handed out Employee Excellence Awards to 24 employees, recognizing distinction in four categories that align with our Strategic Vision, Mission and Values: Teamwork; Innovation; Service Excellence and Empowerment.
