How to Maintain Your AED
Publicly accessible automated external defibrillators (AEDs) need to be checked regularly to ensure they work when they are needed.
If you have an AED in your workplace, other public location or home, here is what you need to do to ensure it works at all times:
1. Check the AED weekly. It only takes a minute.
2. Check the battery indicator to make sure it is fully charged.
3. Check that the pads are intact and not expired.
4. If the AED pads and/or battery need to be replaced, or if the AED is not working for some other reason, contact the vendor.
Essex-Windsor EMS has a list of reputable vendors and is also happy to visit your site in Windsor, in Essex County or on Pelee Island to provide more information about AEDs. You can contact us at defib@countyofessex.ca.
