Essex-Windsor EMS Deputy Chief Justin Lammers Hailed in Florida for Water Rescue

Essex-Windsor EMS Deputy Chief Justin Lammers received a life-saving award and medal in Palm Beach city council chambers this week after rescuing a tired swimmer struggling in the water.

Lammers is on a family vacation in Florida. He was setting up beach chairs for his two children when he saw a man struggling in the surf.

Lammers grabbed the only flotation device he could find – his son’s Wham-O bodyboard – and ran into the water, shouting at beachgoers to call 911.

“The Paramedic mode just kicked in,” Lammers tells the Windsor Star.

Lammers praised the Palm Beach Police Department for its quick response and praised beachgoers for calling 911.

His actions were heralded by police and fire officials. He received a life-saving award and a medal in council chambers.
