‘Hometown Heroes’ Honoured for Paramedic Services Week

Essex-Windsor EMS is celebrating Paramedic Services Week this year by hanging banners in all of our local municipalities with the badge numbers of each of the staff members who call that municipality home.

“Essex-Windsor EMS is a regional service serving distinct, local municipalities that is composed of dedicated and compassionate Paramedics and support staff from each of those jurisdictions,” said Essex-Windsor EMS Chief Bruce Krauter. “There are no borders when it comes to the delivery of quality pre-hospital emergency care and we wanted to publicly thank our EWEMS staff for everything they have done and continue to do in the battle against COVID-19.”

The Hometown Hero banners went up this week at prominent locations in Windsor and all seven Essex County municipalities. Following Paramedic Services Week, which kicks off on Sunday May 23 and runs to May 29, the banners will be permanently placed in ambulance bases located in the respective municipalities.

“I would like to thank all of the local municipalities for supporting this project and I would especially like to thank the crews at Essex Power and ELK Energy for hanging these banners,” said Krauter. “It has been a challenging and trying 14 months for Paramedics and all first responders, but the support from the public has been phenomenal and done wonders to boost our morale.”

The theme for this year’s Paramedic Services Week is “Paramedic as Educator – Citizen Ready” and Essex-Windsor EMS and the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs will share posts educating the public on some of the actions they can take before and during an emergency to help Paramedics do their jobs more effectively and efficiently.

“The residents of Windsor and Essex County have done so much to help our Paramedics and support staff in the battle against COVID-19 by abiding by public health restrictions and by only phoning 911 for emergencies,” said Krauter. “They haven’t just been patients but partners, and we want to strengthen that mutually beneficial relationship through continued engagement and education.”
