There are a wide range of health and social programs available in the County of Essex.

Home and community care support services

The Ontario Health atHome for the Erie St. Clair area offers support for living independently at home and facilitates access to long-term care homes, rehabilitation facilities and assisted living programs.

You can refer yourself or have a friend, family member, caregiver or health care professional make a referral.

Seniors

These residential homes provide care for people whose needs can longer be met at home. The County of Essex operates Sun Parlor Home in Leamington.

This program provides subsidies for low-income seniors for retirement and rest homes.

Assisted living

These programs empower people to live as independently as possible. They are available for seniors and adults living with physical disabilities. They are offered in residential settings and at home.

Clinics and physicians

Need to find a doctor? The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit can help you find a doctor or clinic. Or you can also use the provincial service known as Health Care Connect that has a registry of family physicians and nurse practitioners.

Hospitals

  • Windsor Regional Hospital is responsible for all acute care services in Windsor and has two campuses: Met Campus in Walkerville and Ouellette Campus.
  • Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare specializes in mental health and addictions, rehabilitative care, palliative care and youth mental health. It is located in west Windsor. 
  • Erie Shores HealthCare is located in Leamington. The hospital serves the southeast portion of Essex County.

Public health unit

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit provides information and public health warnings and recommendations to residents of Essex County and Windsor. The County of Essex is represented on the board that oversees the health unit board.

Opioid Strategy

The Windsor-Essex Community Opioid and Substance Strategy seeks to address substance abuse through a community-driven action plan with four pillars:

  • Prevention and education
  • Harm reduction
  • Treatment and recovery
  • Enforcement and justice

Ambulance and paramedic service

Essex County is responsible for Essex-Windsor Emergency Medical Services, which provides land ambulance and paramedic services to the region.
